Three main players returned as Australia announced 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India.

Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh and Jhye Richardson will return to international cricket after recovering from their respective injuries.

Maxwell had sustained an leg injury, Marsh had picked up an ankle injury, while pacer Richardson had a hamstring injury.

Australia will be led by Pat Cummins during the three games, while veteran batter David Warner, Steve Smith, and Marnus Labuschagne are also anticipated to play.

George Bailey, the chief selector, believes that Australia will benefit greatly from the series in preparation for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, which will take place in India later this year.

"With the World Cup just over seven months away, these matches in India are an important step in our preparation," Bailey said. "Glenn, Mitchell and Jhye are all important players in what we think the squad might look like come October."

Josh Hazlewood, an experienced seamer who was forced to leave the current Test tour of India due to an Achilles injury, will not be participating in the trip.

"It would be great for Josh to be part of this series but we have taken a conservative view ahead of a very important winter in England of which he will be an integral part,” Bailey said.

Australia will take on India in the first ODI on March 17 in Mumbai. Following which, the two sides will take on each other in the second and third matches, scheduled to take place in Vizag (March 19) and Chennai (March 22), respectively.

It is worth mentioning here that the visitors have lost the first two Test matches against India, which means the home side will retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The third Test will take place from March 1 to 5 in Indore.
